CHRISTOPHER MULROONEY

.............

beside the pool

the fair undraped in every manner of hue and conformation

heavy-maned draperied swept-back waved frosted permed and curled

in sunglasses read the magazines raising a crop a fine film of moisture

just beginning to bead up on them and then it swells it forms it melds

in runoff from the heights those escapades and races full-tilt through the air down into the pool

...........

poolhouse

the star attraction for that is the nixie

of sunlight on the waters playful

refracted or cast in broken ripples

underneath the aquamarine as waves

of light or sound fill a redolent chamber

...........

aqua

the tang of chlorine not iodine

no seaweed or shells

but the restless water stirred by swimming

and plashed and palmed in evening twilight

or at night a sunken noon

...........

fourscore

the little steps into the water

with a chrome guide

so that you get the bearings

of the geometrical world

before you glide

...........

memorabilia

those flights of steps and single doors

and that is the chandelier one slept in

there the mirrored cabinet and there the sluice bed

Mozart’s billiard table taking its cue

from the circular elements of composition

...........

jazzbo

to play the saxophone so well

reed on brass is fine

must be an accomplishment

deep-seated as the top

that dances on a whirligig
